Thank You From The Salvos

Thank You From The Salvos

Gloria Jean's coffee houses across Australia recently got on board straight after the unspeakable earthquake disaster, supporting the people of Haiti who captured the hearts and attention of the world. The With Heart donation boxes became collection points for donations for The Salvation Army’s Haiti Appeal. A huge thank you to all the in store teams who made this happen, and all our guests who contributed so generously!

Below is a thank you letter from the Salvos for the Foundation’s donation to their work in Haiti.

With Heart Foundation Haiti support

In response to the recent gifts of $10,000 and $41,500 received from The Gloria Jeans Foundation, we would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation.

The Salvation Army has been in Haiti, St Martin Port au Prince for 60 years. Our service offer three medical facilities, social service institutions and dozens of schools catering for more than 10,000 children.

Currently we are working with the Haitian government, the U.S. Military, FEMA, the United Nations, other NGOs to coordinate the emergency response, food distribution, medical services and general care and support of local people. To date The Salvos has distributed some 750,000 meals and provided medical attention to over 250 patients a day at its clinic in Delmas 2.

The Salvation Army's La Maison du Bonheur Children's Home sustained damage and continues to care for 52 children and this number had increased when two members of the emergency team went into the countryside and found 30 infants under the age of five months holed up in the back of a tractor trailer with no food or water days after the earthquake.

As a small sign that life had returned to normal, we re-opened a school in a temporary site at our compound in Port au Prince where relief workers provided children aged three to six years old with security, nutrition and medical assistance as needed.

In the midst of all the chaos and confusion of a disaster area, the clinic staff rejoiced in the birth of three babies .In a place where there has been so much death and pain, it is wonderful to see the evidence of new life.

The good news is that, thanks to the generosity of partners such as The Gloria Jeans Foundation, we are able to continue our work in Haiti and will be there to assist with the long term healing and rebuilding. By doing this we are assuring people that someone does care.
